Build a board that can guide a decision

Start with one sentence that names the decision. Add references for distinct reasons, then remove duplicates. Make the strongest overall reference the most prominent item.

For the complete process from collection to approval, use the practical mood board method.

Turn a loose collection into a decision board

A mood board maker is a visual workspace for arranging references, colors, text, notes, and simple shapes around one design decision. Use the canvas to compare evidence, establish hierarchy, and export a direction that another person can understand.

A useful canvas sequence

Write the decision first

State what the board must help you choose. A clear brief keeps image collection focused and gives you a standard for removing references later.

Add references for different reasons

Use images to provide evidence about light, material, form, typography, color, composition, or behavior. Select each image to record a short reference label and its source.

Arrange by importance

Make the strongest overall reference prominent. Group supporting details nearby, remove duplicates, and check whether the direction still reads when the board is viewed at thumbnail size.

Export a decision record

Before exporting, add a short note explaining what the direction is, what it excludes, and what still needs validation through samples, measurements, or prototypes.

Use the open canvas when

  • Interior, brand, product, event, editorial, and fashion direction
  • Remote review when collaborators need one shared visual reference
  • Early comparison before committing time or money to detailed design

Questions about the browser workspace

Are uploaded images sent to Nice-Boards?

No. Images are resized in your browser and saved with the board in browser storage. Nice-Boards does not receive the files.

What survives after the browser closes?

The board name, brief, canvas color, uploaded references, labels, source notes, card content, dimensions, positions, layers, and appearance can remain in this browser until its site data is cleared or you clear the board.

Can the exported board be used commercially?

The export function does not grant rights to reference images. Use original or properly licensed assets in final commercial work and preserve source information during research.
